CHILDREN'S POLICY & LAW INITIATIVE OF INDIANA
Mission Statement: CPLI advocates for systemic changes for children so that programs, policies and practices are developmentally appropriate, equitably administered and fair, and provide the necessary support for a child’s successful transition to adulthood.
CPLI is excited to announce the Creating Excellence in School Culture and Climate 2024 Report
The Children's Policy and Law Initiative of Indiana (CPLI) conducted a series of Best Practices Workshops with two in-person gatherings, and, subsequently, convened a six-month long workgroup who analyzed the findings. The work from this year-long process has resulted in a report with nine themes, recommendations and action steps to support creating safe and secure positive school climates for every school in Marion County.
Made possible by CPLI, Community Leaders and Organizations, Indianapolis Youth, and the CICF Elevation Grant Program.
This introductory video on CPLI's work was created in 2018. Though there have been many successes in the youth justice arena due to our work, much of the data and issues featured are still relevant today. For more information on recent accomplishments legislatively, click here.
OUR WORK
Advocacy
The PSDI program provides tools to help administrators, school support service staff, teachers, and school resource officers reduce exclusionary practices and provide strategies to improve learning environments for all students.
LEARN MORE
The Youth Justice Leadership Program helps develop leadership skills among youth to advocate for youth justice and ending the school-to-prison pipeline. Youth assist in crafting solutions to address the systemic issues and root causes of behavior.
Coalition Building
CPLI collaborates with community partners to provide expert knowledge, conduct research, arrange workshops and conferences, and promote community-led efforts to reform laws and improve policies, practices, and programs to reduce the number of children entering the juvenile and criminal justice systems.
